Soon after the fried chicken advertisement aired people took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
Many found it to be an ironic satire of the state of the nation.

The tweet gained viral traction almost immediately and is currently at over 77K likes.
Another user clapped back at the satire comment.
"Educate yourself. That ad was part of an ad buy from weeks or months ago," the other user wrote.
"Applebees didn't even know exactly when it was going to be shown. That's how ad buys work. The responsible party is @CNN. It's their job to look for issues like that before they air."
