Who is Peter Cook?
Peter Edward Cook was one of the most intelligent wits of his or any other generation.
The Derek and Clive performer had a huge influence on the British comedy scene remains immense.
Cook came to prominence between 1960 and 1963 with Beyond the Fringe, along with Dudley Moore, Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller during the “satire boom” of the 1960s.
He co-founded the Establishment Club, billed as “London’s first satirical nightclub”, in 1961 and in 1962 he became majority shareholder in the magazine Private Eye until his death for 30 years.
He appeared in the homes of Brits across the nation - well those with television sets anyway - in the early sixties with satirical comedy That Was The Week that Was, hosted by Sir David Frost.
But it is his partnership as Clive alongside Moore's Derek that will be remembered - as well their feisty relationship.

The pair had appeared in BBC television series, Not Only… But Also, but in 2002 out-takes from Derek and Clive recordings showed the true extent of the animosity between the comedy pair.
Friend Richard Ingrams said: "Peter was a very, very nice and kind person who when drunk would become vicious and unpleasant.
"And he took it out particularly on Dudley and broke up the partnership
Cook was married three times and had two daughters - Lucy and daisy.
