The scaffolding is understood to have toppled inside a building at a construction site on East Morehead Street, Dilworth, CBS17 reports.
Reports claim a wall then fell on the victims below, although this has not been confirmed.
Addressing members of the media this afternoon, Charlotte Fire Department Capt. Jackie Gilmore, said: "When firefighters arrived on scene we had scaffolding that had collapsed and we had workers that had fallen from the scaffolding.
"Unfortunately we had three workers pronounced deceased on scene.
