The Soft-Blunt Bob Is A Pretty Take On The Classic Cut For Some Gentle Movement

If you want a shoulder-baring haircut that's as stunning as it is easy to wear, we're in love with the soft-blunt bob.

There's no denying it, we're still bob-obsessed. Sure we've considered XXL butt-grazing lengths, or even a skimpy pixie cut, but we keep coming back to how simple, foolproof and dreamy a well-executed bob haircut is.

Of course, for the sake of variety, we like to play the field, which is why we've considered every bob length and shape, from cheek-length French-girl bobs, to shoulder-sweeping outgrown bobs and structured A-line bobs. But one of our favourite renditions of all time has to be the soft-blunt bob.

What is the soft-blunt bob?

Like it's name suggests the soft-blunt bob is a softer rendition of the classic blunt bob. Instead of slicing the bottom edge dead straight, it's less harsh and has a slightly more worn in, gentle base line. An extra bonus is that the technique gives the cut extra texture, which we love. Essentially, it's the girl-next-door of bob haircuts: cute, approachable and laidback.

How to style a soft-blunt bob?

As for products to help you along, we're guessing that Kristin tapped up her own haircare range, to achieve that movement and 'sexture'. The Kristin Ess Instant Lift Spray (£8) is effectively a volumising mousse but in mist form to add some extra oomf and the Working Texture Loose Styling Powder (£7.33) adds even more root-lift and helps to create and hold beautiful undone texture. Yum.

Why choose a soft-blunt bob?

A great example is the one celeb hairstylist, Kristin Ess, created for her long-term client (and our low-key bob crush), Lucy Hale. Alongside looking phwoooar, it's the perfect entry level bob if you fancy for a change, since the length is not too short if you're transitioning from a longer cut. And, if you're already on #teambob, it's an easygoing shape that's simple to maintain because the aesthetic is to deliberately look a little worn-in.

8 more ways to wear a soft-blunt bob…

Loosely waved

To keep the styling on point, the soft-blunt bob shape works well with ultra loose waves which give pretty movement, and extra definition around the cheeks, but without looking too 'done'.

Round-brushed

If you want something a little sleeker, create more of a curved shape with a round brush. You can even use the technique on a slick blunt bob to make it look more like a soft-blunt bob.

Jawbone length

The longer the length, the more it'll disappear into your shoulders so a cropped jaw length bob will help show off the gorgeous soft-blunt shape.

Soft-blunt bob and fringe

Lean into the mussy vibe with a messy fringe.

Half-waved

A barely-there wave will help to show off the texture and movement.

Glossy

Keep the ends relaxed, but the finish glam and polished with ultra glossy strands.

Flicked

Create extra movement with a flicked out shape.

French

Mix two classics: the French bob length with soft-blunt bob ends.
