Star's Hometown Celebration Parade draws thousands

STAR, Idaho — Star’s celebration was far and wide with thousands of people showing up to watch and take part in the parade. Local residents say it was one of the largest parades the city has seen.

Hundreds of floats made their way down Highway 44 into downtown Star for one of the city’s many July 4 events. Earlier in the morning, the city hosted a fun run and a pie-baking contest.

Resident Jennifer Raymond was shocked by the high turnout.

“We haven’t been to the Star hometown parade for quite a few years, and so we were very surprised and very excited by how big and how exciting it was this year,” Raymond said.

California resident Ron Snyder has family in Star. He was excited to see the parade with his grandchildren.

“We came to Star because my son lives here and I’ve got a couple of grandkids out here and they wanted to see the parade and it was a lot of fun, a lot of good ease. Everyone had a good time.”

He also went on the mention the importance of celebrating the fourth.

“We’ve had a lot of people who have died for this country, done things for this country. It’s nice to be able to show some patriotism and show how much we love our country here,” Snyder said. “It’s very nice.”

Star will also host a “Freedom Fireworks Show” at 10:15 p.m. but there are some things to note if you’re heading out. There is no smoking allowed at the park, and pets are also not allowed.
