THE DETROIT Lions are giving their star QB Jared Goff another potential weapon after signing another wide receiver to the team.
The Lions signed wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith to a reserve/future deal on Tuesday as the team prepares for the offseason following their NFC Championship loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

The 28-year-old receiver's NFL career has been up and down to this point, but now he's getting another chance to stick in the league.
Smith last appeared for the Denver Broncos this season and played in one game with the franchise.
He found himself in Denver after being released from the New Orleans Saints in September to start the season when he was placed on injured reserve.
Smith is familiar with Lions' head coach, Dan Campell, as the two spent time together when they were members of the Saints.

The Delray Beach native was a stellar high school player in Florida, competing in football, and did not start playing the sport until then.
Nevertheless, he still garnered attention and was lightly recruited as a three-star prospect after his senior year.
He earned nine college offers from prominent schools like UCLA, Arkansas, and Nebraska.

However, Smith decided to stay in his hometown state and attended the University of Central Florida.
Smith played three seasons with the program, catching 168 passes for 2,748 yards and 22 touchdowns in 37 career games.

Smith has earned over $8.8million in his NFL career.
His future deal with Detroit will allow him to have a training camp invite with the team this offseason with a chance to make the 2024 roster.
He will compete against a loaded Detroit receiver room with fellow pass catcher Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Antonie Green, Donovan Peoples-Jones, and Kalif Raymond.
