Marco van Basten fears for Erik ten Hag taking Man Utd job in damning attack after 'sad' Liverpool thrashing

AJAX legend Marco Van Basten has questioned if it's a good move for Erik ten Hag to take the Manchester United job after their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The current Ajax boss Ten Hag has been announced as the new manager at Old Trafford starting next season.

Van Basten speaking to Ziggo Sport discussed the 52-year-ol's imminent arrival and the state of Man Utd.

He said: "You actually have to ask yourself whether it is United that might have doubts about Ten Hag or should Ten Hag start doubting United.

"The difference between Liverpool and United at the moment is huge. 

"They (the Man Utd players) walked around like beaten people.

"I think this is really sad to see, for such a big club.

"They are one of the biggest clubs in England but not one of them showed anything.

"Harry Maguire passes the ball in the same way and thinks, 'I don't know, have I done the right thing?' "

Man Utd were dismantled by Liverpool for the second time this season and the Red Devils look set to miss out on Champions League football and maybe even Europa League for next season.
