Never be unaware of how to switch the water to your house off
Knowing where the main water valve to your home is vital, whether you're just renting or own your home.
If there's even a leak or burst pipe you might have to turn the water off, and fast - so knowing where it is and how to do it is a must.
Never pour oils or chemicals down the drain
It can be temping to pour cleaning chemicals down the drain when you're finished with them, but you really shouldn't.
The harsh chemicals can damage your entire plumbing system, which can be tedious and expensive to fix.
Oil should only be binned and never poured down your drain, since it can harden and lead to cloggs.
Never flush wipes down the loo
Regular wipes are known to cause blockages in plumbing systems, so they should be disposed of in a bin instead.
You can buy flushable wipes, but even some of them can lead to clogs, so avoiding flushing all of them is the best way to avoid pricey damage.

Never wait until things get worse to call a professional
The last thing you want to be doing when you've got a plumbing emergency is root through contacts and websites trying to find a good one near you, Roger said.
When you have a problem you should get one in before it becomes an emergency.
Save the number of a plumber to your phone before you actually need one, so you're prepared if crisis does strike.
