Eastridge Mall shooting in Gastonia, North Carolina, leaves four hospitalized and shoppers fleeing in fear

FOUR people have been shot after gunfire erupted inside a mall, sending shoppers fleeing in fear.

The bloody incident occurred at Eastridge Mall in Gastonia, North Carolina, on Friday afternoon.

Gastonia Police Chief Travis Brittain said officials are getting mixed information about where the shooting unfolded after initially saying that the shots were fired inside the mall's food court.

Three people were transported to local hospitals with gunshot wounds.

Gaston police said the victims, two males and a female, all sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

A fourth victim became known to officials after he showed up at a hospital in Charlotte, police said. His condition was not immediately known.

Officials said two people of interest are being interviewed at police headquarters.

At least one suspect was seen running from the building towards a neighboring Woodline, WSOC-TV reported.

There is no active threat to the area, according to Gastonia Police.

The DMV License Plate Agency at Eastridge Mall in Gastonia was shut following the shooting.

Investigators were entering the building, helping people exit the mall and directing family members who came to the mall looking for loved ones.

No motive for the shooting has been released, but police aren't ruling anything out, WSOC-TV reported.

MARYLAND MALL SHOOTING

About an hour after the incident, three other people at The Shops at Iverson Mall in Temple Hills, Maryland, were injured following a second shooting.

The Prince George Police Department said the victims are all adults, two females and one male.

Police say the male is currently in critical condition, while the two females suffered what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials assured that there is no active shooter warning in effect.
