Conor McGregor likened to 140st GORILLA by coach after leaving him covered in marks from training for UFC return

CONOR McGREGOR has been likened to a "2,000lb gorilla" by his head coach following his return to mixed martial arts training.

The UFC poster boy has slapped on several pounds of lean muscle mass during his time on the sidelines recovering from his horrific broken leg.

And coach John Kavanagh felt the full force of a bigger McGregor when his most famous student returned to SBG Ireland for a grappling session.

Ireland's first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt told BlockAsset: "I don't know if you can see the few nicks and marks I got.

"He just kind of showed up by surprise. And of course, he grabbed me by the neck.

"And I was subjected to a couple of rounds by this 2,000lb gorilla."

The markings left by McGregor came as no surprise to Kavanagh's wife Orlagh.

He continued: "And I came home, and I walked in the door, and Orlagh went, ‘What the f*** happened to you? What’s wrong with your head?’

"And I said, ‘Oh, Conor showed up.’ And she just sort of rolled her shoulders and went, ‘Yeah, that makes sense.'

"But yeah, we had a great roll around."

McGregor is seemingly close to being fighting fit after a painstaking recovery from the broken leg he suffered in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier last July.

The Notorious, according to Kavanagh, is now capable of taking part in all aspects of mixed martial arts training.

He said: "I think that’s literally my first time grappling with him since the lead-up to the last fight. So, it’s been a while.

"He’s back healthy now. He’s back, able to do all the facets of MMA training.”

McGregor, 33, was seemingly on course for an autumn return to the octagon but only just resumed kicking with his previously-compromised leg.

And UFC president Dana White is expecting him to be back in the octagon in the coming months.

When recently asked where McGregor's next fight will take place, the MMA mogul told Jim Rome: "It’ll be in the cage.

“Conor is looking to come back at the end of this year, early next year.”

He added: "When I do talk to Conor, Conor wants to fight.

“Conor gets all kinds of offers for movie roles and all these other things that he can go and do and make money.
