From 1978 through 1981, Benjamin Franklin “Buck” Belue was a member of the University of Georgia football and baseball teams. He was the quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs in 1980, when the team went 12-0 and was crowned the consensus national champion after defeating Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. A 93-yard touchdown throw from Belue to wide receiver Lindsay Scott in the 1980 season, which resulted to a win against the University of Florida, is still tied for the longest passing score in Georgia history with two other passing plays. Belue was chosen the team’s captain in 1981. Belue was a four-year letterwinner in baseball at Georgia. He went on to play three years in the Montreal Expos organisation after a lifetime batting average of.356 at Georgia. Belue also played quarterback for the Jacksonville Bulls of the United States Football League in 1984 and 1985. Belue now co-hosts the noon radio programme Buck and Kincade on 680 The Fan in Atlanta, Georgia, with John Kincade. In 1996, Belue was inducted into the Georgia-Florida Hall of Fame. In 2007, he was inducted into the Valdosta High School Hall of Fame as the only quarterback to start all four years for the Valdosta Wildcats, the nation’s most successful high school team.
