As of 2012, her albums have sold more than 54 million copies worldwide. Her song “Snowbird” was the first Canadian female solo artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 list in the United States, and she was also the first to get a Gold record for one of her trademark songs (1970). Céline Dion, Sarah McLachlan, and Shania Twain are just a few of the worldwide Canadian success stories that have emerged as a result of her work. She is frequently referred to as “the one who opened the path for other international Canadian success stories.” The Gold-plus album A Little Good News from 1983 made her the first woman and first Canadian to win “Record of the Year” at the Country Music Association Awards, which she received in 1984 for the album.
